About

Hey, I’m Katie Budrow, a middle school science teacher that is lucky to work for an amazing school district in the Chicagoland area. The perspectives shared here are definitely my own and should not be considered reflective of the views of any of my employers.

I’ve got a project-based, standards-based classroom where students are led, not managed. This allows students to shift from learning science to becoming scientists themselves. I also work with teachers to help them implement these practices in their own classrooms.

I also believe that teaching is the best job but the hardest job. I know science can help us all do it a little better. I’m always researching for better ways to do the job I love and am happy to share what I find with all of you.

If you are interested in working with me, please know that my family and my own classroom are both full time jobs. I mostly work with districts in the greater Chicagoland area but consider remote work depending on the opportunity.

I tend to work with schools/districts that:

  • Think there are lots of great things already happening in their buildings
  • Have teachers that are tired of somebody telling them the solutions (and tired of those solutions not working)
  • Believe that ground-up change is valuable and that a rising tide can lift all boats
  • Have admin that are open to conversations – this might mean that the problems are not what you think they are

Please don’t reach out to hire me if:

  • You think teachers are the problem
  • You want somebody to push your agenda through for you

Still interested? Let’s talk!
