Students run a large chunk of the room. But that doesn’t mean it is a free-for-all. In order to have students run the room, it has to be firmly grounded in good classroom management techniques so that when students take it over, they are set up for success.
Here are some of the things that students have run in my room:
- Leading and closing the class
- Finding and vetting instructional materials
- Creating small group and whole group lessons
- Making rubrics
- Setting class norms
- Developing classroom routings
- Managing learning materials
- Implementing formative assessments
